MAC SUMMER CAMP

In partnership with UCLA Recreation, Marina Aquatic Center Junior Rowing offers a summer learn-to-row day camp program for novice rowers. Open to high school and middle school boys and girls ages 13-18, this program is designed to introduce beginners to the sport of competitive sweep rowing in a fun and positive way. Participants in each of our four 5 day camp sessions will learn the fundamentals of the rowing stroke, boat handling, terminology and safety and will, by the end of the week, find themselves gliding across the surface of Marina del Rey as part of an 8-oared crew, working together with their newfound friends to keep their sleek craft moving smoothly.

The camp is run by MAC Junior Rowing Head Coach Zohar Abramovitz with the assistance of members of the MAC varsity team and is a terrific way for any kid who thinks he or she may be interested in getting into the sport to see what it’s all about without having to jump feet first into the more competitive team environment.

While we encourage anyone interested in trying out the sport to attend one of the camps, it is not a prerequisite for joining the school year team program.

Each of the camps runs Monday-Friday and follows the following schedule.

A typical day at camp:

9:30 a.m. Meet at the UCLA Marina Aquatic Center, Warm up on the rowing machines and prepare boats for launch.
10:00 a.m.

First water session. Eights on the water!

11:30 a.m. Lunch (campers must provide their own lunch!)
12:15 p.m. Second water session. Eights on the water!
1:45 p.m. Wash and put away boats, debrief day’s session.
2:00 p.m. Day is done!

Fees:

The cost for one week of camp is $270. Discounts are available for anyone wishing to attend multiple sessions.
